Mary is top NCTJ student

Press Association Training graduate Mary Hamilton has scooped up a top NCTJ award.

Mary – who attended the Press Association’s Foundation course in Multi Media Journalism in Newcastle – achieved the highest grades in the country in her NCTJ preliminary exams.

She was presented with her award for being the Student Journalist of the Year at the Society of Editors conference in Stansted on Monday. (Nov 16)

Mary, who is a trainee with the Eastern Daily Press, received her award from BBC Director of News Helen Boaden.

Press Association Foundation Course leader Paul Jones said: “We are all delighted for Mary.

“She worked extremely hard while she was with us and achieved excellent grades – all As.

“This is especially impressive when it is considered that our course is run over just 17 weeks.”
