The NCTJ has named the Newcastle foundation course the top performing privately-provided course in the UK for the second year in a row.
It achieved the highest percentage of students achieving C grade passes or better in all the NCTJ core exams plus 100 wpm shorthand for its category.
Twice as many delegates on the Newcastle course passed all the exams as compared to the BEST performing short course in a further education college.
Together these exams make up the preliminary Certificate in Journalism, widely regarded by recruiting editors as the essential qualification for aspiring journalists to get their first job in a multimedia newsroom.
Special mention was made of the course’s achievement in getting delegates on the course through the challenging 100 words per minute exam in shorthand.
Joanne Butcher, chief executive of the NCTJ said: “As we recently celebrated shorthand week, I’d like to pay tribute to the results achieved by students on the Press Association Training course. 93 per cent of students on these achieved at least 100wpm.”
Tony Johnston, head of Press Assocaition Training, said: We are delighted to top the results table for the second year in a row, It is a fantastic achievement by our delegates who work extremely hard during the course.
“It is also a great credit to the professionalism and training provided by the team in Newcastle who work so hard to reach these high standards.”
